VIRADOURO 1997

This parade was a conceptual masterpiece that brought a "sci-fi" edge to the Sambadrome. The enredo explored the duality of darkness and light, beginning with the void of the pre-universe and the cataclysmic "Big Bang." The opening wings were dressed in obsidian blacks and deep purples, using materials that absorbed light to create a sense of infinite emptiness, a risky move in a festival known for its glitter. 

As the "Universe" exploded, the parade transitioned into a blinding display of neon, mirrors, and LEDs. It traced the formation of the stars, the planets, and eventually, the spark of life on Earth. The floats were massive mechanical structures that moved and transformed, reflecting the chaotic energy of creation. It was a technical tour de force that pushed the limits of what was possible in a moving parade, blending physics with fantasy. 

The conclusion of the parade centered on the light of human creativity and the "explosion" of Samba as a cosmic force. It was the first time a school had successfully married high-concept scientific theory with the primal energy of the drum section. The sheer audacity of the theme, combined with the innovative "funk-samba" beat, signaled to the world that Viradouro was no longer an underdog but a powerhouse of modern Carnival.

Trivia: The "Comissão de Frente" (opening act) featured dancers who appeared to be skating on air; they were actually using hidden rollerblades on a specially polished surface of the float to simulate zero gravity.
