About

The 1991 enredo, "De Bar em Bar, Didi, um Poeta" (From Bar to Bar, Didi, a Poet), was a deeply personal and nostalgic tribute to one of the school’s greatest legends: the songwriter Didi. Rather than a dry biography, the parade was a lyrical tour of the "bohemia" of Rio de Janeiro and the Ilha do Governador. It followed the poet's footsteps through the corner bars, the "botecos," and the tables where some of the most famous sambas in history were written over glasses of beer and plates of snacks.

Visually, the school turned the Sambadrome into a giant open-air pub. Floats featured oversized beer bottles, crates, and traditional bar counters where "malandros" and poets sat in eternal conversation. The costumes were a celebration of the Carioca "lifestyle"—linen suits, Panama hats, and the casual elegance of those who find beauty in the mundane. It was an enredo that smelled of saltwater and cold draft beer, capturing the suburban soul of the Ilha do Governador and the lightness that Didi always brought to his lyrics.

The emotional heart of the parade was, unsurprisingly, the music. The samba-enredo itself was a masterpiece of simplicity and joy, with a chorus that invited everyone to join the "table" of the poet. It celebrated the "simplicidade" (simplicity) that Didi championed throughout his career. By the time the school reached the end of the runway, it felt as though the entire stadium had shared a drink with a friend. It remains one of the most beloved "homenagens" (tributes) in Carnival history, proving that a great man’s life is best told through the songs he left behind.

Result: 9th Place

Trivia: The real Didi (Deoclecio Silva Filho) actually paraded on the final float, visibly moved as he watched thousands of people singing his life story back to him. Tragically, he passed away just a few months after this grand tribute.
