About

"A Deusa da Passarela" (The Goddess of the Runway) is perhaps the most iconic hymn in the history of Beija-Flor de Nilópolis, serving as the school’s emotional and spiritual signature. Composed by the legendary Neguinho da Beija-Flor, the song is a soaring tribute to the school’s dominance and the mystical aura it carries onto the Sambadrome. It portrays Beija-Flor not merely as a competitor, but as a divine entity—a "goddess" in blue and white—whose arrival commands silence and reverence before erupting into a celebration of the "povo de Nilópolis" (people of Nilópolis).

In the context of the parade, this hymn is used during the "esquenta" (the warm-up) to galvanize the thousands of members and the audience. It is the moment where Neguinho’s famous cry, "Olha a Beija-Flor aí, gente!", transitions into the rhythmic heartbeat of the drum section, signaling that the "Goddess" is ready to reclaim her throne. The song’s longevity and its poetic lyrics about the hummingbird ("beija-flor") visiting the garden of Samba have cemented it as a symbol of the school's technical perfection and its unshakeable bond with its community.
