This legendary enredo was a vibrant and revolutionary tribute to the culture, history, and spiritual energy of Bahia. It explored the city of Salvador, its colonial architecture, and the unique religious syncretism that defines the Bahian identity, positioning it as the primary cradle of Afro-Brazilian traditions.
The parade celebrated the Orixás, the traditional "baianas" selling sweets, and the festive atmosphere of the streets of Pelourinho. It moved away from Eurocentric historical themes to highlight the richness of African heritage and its integration into the daily life and the soul of the Brazilian people.
Salgueiro’s presentation was a visual explosion of red and white, using the theme to celebrate Black pride and the beauty of Northeastern traditions. It remains one of the most influential enredos in carnival history, setting a new standard for how schools could represent regional and ethnic cultures with grandeur and respect.
Result: 1st Place (Champion).
Trivia: This was the first time a samba school focused entirely on Bahia, starting a long tradition of "Northeastern" themes in the Rio Carnival.
