Acadêmicos do Salgueiro is famously known by the slogan "Nem melhor, nem pior, apenas uma escola diferente" (Neither better, nor worse, just a different school), a testament to its history of revolutionary innovation.
Based in the Andaraí neighborhood and representing the Morro do Salgueiro, the school’s arrival in the 1950s and 60s fundamentally changed carnival by introducing Afro-Brazilian themes and historical narratives that centered on Black protagonists, such as the legendary Xica da Silva and Zumbi dos Palmares.
Dressed in its striking red and white colors, Salgueiro is celebrated for its "furious" drum wing (Bateria Furiosa), which delivers an intense, high-energy rhythm that perfectly complements its visually bold and theatrical parades.
As one of the most popular and "hot" schools in Rio, Salgueiro consistently blends sophisticated artistic direction with a visceral, passionate connection to its community, maintaining its status as a permanent title contender.
